Trenches: Dig In, Hold the Line

The enemy is close. Not across an open field, not on the other side of a colourful block maze, just metres away, low in the dirt, waiting for the same gap in your defence that you’re looking for in theirs. There’s no elaborate flanking route to puzzle out, no elevated angle to find. There’s only forward, backward, and the ground in between.

That’s the Trenches experience. Situated within the 120-acre grounds of Ultimate Paintball in Camden, this battlefield delivers something the other maps don’t: a test of pure, unrelenting resolve. This isn’t about outsmarting the opposition. It’s about outworking them, out-communicating them, and refusing to give up ground when the pressure hits hardest.

For groups who want to walk away genuinely spent, physically, mentally, and absolutely satisfied, Trenches is the one.

The Mission: Crawl, Push, and Hold

Step onto the Trenches battlefield, and the terrain tells you everything immediately. Dugouts carved into the earth. Mud walls rising at every turn. Tight corridors that force you to duck, crawl, and push forward through a web of cover, with the opposing team doing exactly the same thing just a few metres ahead.

Your objective is to capture and hold the frontline, but claiming it is only half the battle. Holding it while the other team regroups, reorganises, and comes back harder is where Trenches earns its reputation. Every position you take has to be defended. Every metre you advance has to be covered. Let your guard drop for a second, and you’ll find out exactly why communication isn’t optional on this map.

Unlike the wide-open assault lines of D-Day or the momentum-driven sprint of Drum Roll, Trenches is a slow burn. Advances are measured in steps, not strides. The walls and dugouts create a constant tension between exposure and cover; push too aggressively, and you get cut down; stay too cautious, and the opposition digs in deeper. Finding the balance between the two, and executing it as a team, is what this battlefield is all about.

The Gameplay: Grit, Discipline, and No Hiding

Every battlefield in the Ultimate Paintball arsenal rewards a different kind of player. Lego Land rewards the creative thinker who can read angles and adapt on the fly. Trenches rewards something harder to teach: composure under sustained pressure and the discipline to hold a role when every instinct is telling you to move.

There are no passengers on this map. The tight layout means every player is active, every position is visible to the team, and every mistake is immediately felt by everyone around you. Squads that communicate clearly, call out positions, coordinate pushes, and cover each other’s movements will dominate. Squads that fragment will get picked apart one by one.

This makes Trenches one of the most revealing maps on the property for corporate groups. You’ll find out very quickly how your team actually communicates under pressure, not how they think they do. Sports clubs and competitive groups gravitate toward this field for the same reason: the intensity is genuine, the stakes feel real, and the satisfaction of holding a position against a sustained attack is unlike anything else on offer.

For bucks parties chasing something that goes well beyond a casual day out, Trenches delivers the war stories.

Advance and Hold

One team pushes through the trench network with a single objective: breach the opposing team’s position and claim the frontline marker. The defending team digs in and holds, no retreating, no regrouping, just discipline and fire discipline. Once the attacking team either claims the objective or gets eliminated, teams swap ends.

The roles reverse completely, and now the defenders become the attackers. It’s a format that ensures everyone experiences both the controlled chaos of pushing forward and the focused intensity of holding ground. Most squads are surprised to discover which role they find harder.

Last Squad Standing

No flags, no objectives, no mercy. Both teams occupy opposite ends of the trench network, and the rule is simple: outlast everyone on the other side. The confined terrain means there’s nowhere to retreat to and no way to disengage once contact is made.

Attrition decides the winner. This mode turns Trenches into as much an endurance contest as a tactical one; physical stamina, mental resilience, and the refusal to give up ground matter just as much as accuracy. Last Squad Standing on the Trenches map is the kind of round that your group will still be talking about at dinner.

Safety in Close Quarters

The intensity of close-quarters combat makes attentive refereeing non-negotiable, and the Ultimate Paintball team is built for exactly this environment. Trained field referees are positioned throughout the Trenches layout, not watching from the perimeter but active within the field, monitoring engagements around blind corners and tight gaps in real time.

The entire crew operates on two-way radio communication, which means the game can be paused instantly and any situation can be managed immediately. Safe minimum engagement distances are strictly enforced on every round.

Every player is fitted with professional-grade full-face protective masks, body armour, and padded camouflage overalls before they step onto the field. As a fully Safety Certified experience, the goal is always the same: the most intense experience possible, delivered in the safest environment possible. Those two things aren’t in conflict; they’re the whole point.

After the Frontline: Decompress and Debrief

Trenches asks more of you than most maps. When the final whistle goes, you’ll feel it in your legs, your voice, and the very satisfying exhaustion that comes from genuinely giving everything on the field. The debrief after a Trenches session has its own energy. Everyone has a moment. Everyone has a story. The comeback hold, the push that nearly worked, the communication breakdown that cost the round, it all gets unpacked over the next hour with the particular satisfaction of people who actually earned their rest.

Spacious, on-site picnic areas are available, completely free, with covered seating for your group to settle in, BYO food, and turn a half-day battle into a full-day event worth the trip. When you’re ready to step it up to a proper meal, the famous Camden Valley Inn is right next door; the natural landing spot for a group that’s just come off the paintball fields in Camden and wants to finish the day properly.

Ready to Hold the Line?

The dugouts are waiting. The walls are up. The only question is whether your squad has what it takes to dig in, absorb the pressure, and refuse to give ground when it matters most. Some teams find out they’re better than they thought. Others find out what they need to work on. Either way, Trenches will give you a straight answer.

Assemble your squad and book your session today. The frontline doesn’t hold itself.
